Indianapolis Small Business Healthcare
Do you want to find Indianapolis small business healthcare that can provide your employees with the coverage they need while keeping costs low? If so, you’re in luck – that’s exactly what AffordaShare offers its members. We’re a private medical cost sharing program designed to deliver exceptional healthcare coverage at just a fraction of the price of typical health insurance.
What Is a Medical Cost Sharing Program?
Despite the fact that they’re not widely known, medical cost sharing programs have existed in the United State for more than 20 years. They were originally created as an alternative to the country’s overly complicated and expensive health insurance system, a role they still fill to this day. Though many medical cost sharing organizations are faith-based, there are some that do not require any type of church affiliation for membership, such as AffordaShare; its membership is open to individuals, families, and small businesses with under 50 employees, regardless of religious beliefs.
Here’s how medical cost sharing organizations like AffordaShare work: All the members participating in the program contribute a set amount every month, similar to a health insurance premium. The members’ resources are then pooled together and distributed to those who require medical care. This simple, streamlined system allows members to receive the care they need without having to worry about unexpected medical expenses.
What Kind of Coverage Do Employees Receive?
AffordaShare coverage is very similar to what your employees would receive from traditional health insurance, with just a few exceptions. We cover all major and minor medical issues – anything from a cut, burn, sprained ankle, or cold to heart attacks, cancer, broken bones, or Covid-19. Our plans also include most pre-existing conditions with just a few major ones exempted from coverage.
AffordaShare coverage also includes:
- A benefit of $10,000 to cover costs in the event of a member’s death
- Flex pay money that’s distributed annually to cover costs related to health and fitness such as crutches, bandages, weight loss programs, gym memberships, and more
- Optional dental and vision benefits that can be added to your plan at any time
- A free Tele-Doc service that’s available to members 24 hours a day
There are a few treatments and procedures that aren’t covered under AffordaShare, however. They are long-term mental health counseling, gender reassignment surgery, plus treatment for drug/alcohol/substance abuse. These expensive treatments are excluded from coverage in an effort to keep costs low for all members.
Are Employees Required to Pay a Yearly Deductible?
All of AffordaShare’s plans include a “portion amount” that members must pay every year if their healthcare needs go beyond office visits and preventative care. This annual portion amount is similar to the yearly deductible that’s typically expected by health insurance companies.
There are a few key differences between the portion amount and a deductible, however. For starters, the annual portion amount is determined by the person enrolling in AffordaShare; they get to determine how much they can afford per year. In addition to being flexible about the amount each member contributes, AffordaShare is also adaptable regarding payment; if a member experiences an emergency and is unable to pay their yearly portion amount, an interest-free payment plan can be put into place. That way, everyone gets the care they need while keeping the system sustainable and fair.
Do Employees Have to Pay for Services in Advance?
No, payment in advance isn’t required. Your employees can go that route, if they wish. All they have to do is make payment then submit the receipt to us to receive reimbursement within 7 days. The other option would be to call the number on the membership card and have us pay for services when they’re rendered. Then we can calculate if any of that amount should be covered by the member and settle up with them after the appointment. It’s a very simple and flexible system – very unlike what you’d encounter with a health insurance company.
How Should Employees Handle Emergency Situations?
In an emergency situation, your employees don’t need to worry about calling us to get preapproval or prepayment. All they have to do is go to the nearest hospital or emergency room, indicate on the paperwork that they are a cash-pay patient, then submit bills to us for processing whenever they’re received.
